“Oh the irony, a demo from G*P themed around pirates”
This demo was created and released at X’18 (where it finished 4th), it is a clever play on the theme of pirates and also the name of the demo party.
The demo starts with a picture of Black Beard and one on his quotes and after a few seconds we move onto the main introduction. This is a multi-screen smooth scrolling bitmap drawn by the amazing facet, as it scroll’s from left to right it displays ‘genesis project’ along with what I think is the head of a dragon at the end. The next few bitmaps that are display tell us who did what in the demo, I personally like how they called the musicians she shanties.
We continue with a multi-layer, multi-colour parallax screen, i think it is supposed to be the open sea, that once again introduces the demo and gives us its name. Next we have a lone pirate on the crow’s nest bobbing up and down on the sea. Above him is a very nice pirate flag blowing in the wind using what I think is a DYPP routine to good effect.
And then we move onto the 1st part of the treasure map section which shows the ships course throughout the demo, some of the names on the map are worth looking for, including the departure point of chicken head island, redcrab beach.
Next we have a dual hi-res dypp text scroller which then becomes a 3 colour snake moving down the screen and that’s the end of disk 1, we get a nice bitmap of a crazy looking man and some sprites asking for disk 2.
And we are back on the open sea with a large pirate ship sailing along, the next screen has some nicely animate ships wheels on. This screen was originally used in Delirious 11 but has been updated and improved here. This is followed by a nice sunburst rotation screen I really do not know what else to call it.
We get a nice bitmap image of a ship, and then an amazing image by facet of an eye over which raistlin has a 128 bob hi-res scroller running, again he has made this before but this is the best version he has released. And we are now back to the map which continue to show the journey and we finally see exactly where ‘X’ is.
X is a colour cycling plasma with some animated characters, and it looks pretty nice and then we have another bitmap of a pirate (think this is hedning) and we are moving onto the 3rd disk.
Disk 3 consists of the final part for this demo and it is a trademark of genesis*project. A massive multi-screen bitmap image scrolling and loading from disk with a sprite upscroller displaying the credits for each part.
